Six Senses Douro Valley
North Portugal, Portugal
Romantic sunsets • Unique setting • Off the beaten path
Nestled in an ochre-hued valley so breathtaking it’s on UNESCO lists, the Six Senses Douro Valley incorporates old-world opulence into its stunning rural surrounds. Guests rave about the in-house restaurant, which whips up hearty Portuguese fare accompanied by award winning Ports and Douro wines. But for maximum relaxation, nothing beats its expansive fully-equipped spa.

Location:

The Six Senses occupies an enviable position amid the tranquil Douro Valley, perched just above the verdant waters of the Douro River. Wine-growing farms abound in every direction, some of which are the Centuries old.

This serene 19-acre countryside estate lies just 125 kilometres away from Oporto International Airport.

Rooms & Suites:

Retaining all the romance one would expect from a 19th-century Portuguese mansion, this historic manor house has been renovated with 21st-century comfort in mind. Throughout the refined estate, contemporary interior design and modern facilities complement its traditional style.

Guests may choose from 60 Superior, Deluxe, and River View rooms or their expansive Suites, the latter of which provide unrivalled luxury and space. Regardless of which you choose, get ready to relish in the panoramic the views of the lush valley and placid river below.

Spa & Wellness:

Rest and relaxation are core priorities at the Six Senses, a philosophy brought forth through its indulgent winery and spa.

Spread over 10 treatment rooms in a spa that covers 2,200 square meters, the hotel spa is the perfect playground for pampering. Guests can sign up for a bespoke program with a qualified trainer or dive into the heated indoor jet pool. The beauty treatments here incorporate natural ingredients from the organic garden which the in-house Alchemy Bar blend into various masks and scrubs.

Fancy something a little more decadent? Then why not get a manicure at the Nail Bar as you gorge on cheese and wine. Or if a quick cardio fix is more your thing, a team of friendly coaches will help you navigate their fully equipped gym.

Guests after a more active escape will be spoilt for choice. Exciting local excursions are in abundance, including winery tours, nature trails, and visits to nearby ancient rock carvings, villages, and castles.

Food & Drink:

What better way to start the day than a buffet breakfast from the hotel’s Vale de Abraão restaurant? This traditional Portuguese eatery only cooks seasonal produce from the local region, some of which comes from the adjacent veggie garden. The team harvests their ingredients as needed, ensuring optimal freshness at all times. Check out their craftwork via the open kitchen or sign up for a cooking class to hone your culinary skills.

For an offbeat dining experience, the secret destination dining tour sees guests head into the hills to feast at a secluded pop-up restaurant in the woods.

Wine lovers will fall head over heels with the Douro Valley, part of which is the oldest demarcated wine-growing region in the world. Quality vino from throughout the valley can be sampled in the hotel wine cellar, the best of which is the famous Port wine.

So grab a snug armchair by the fireplace and get stuck into a selection of self-service tapas and exquisite local wine.

Special Info:

The Six Senses Douro Valley adheres to a strict environmental policy which it updates each year. Eco practices include using local produce, filtering and bottling mineral water, a compost and recycling program, and installing energy efficient fittings.

Excellent location and property and kind staff. High standards of confort and accommodation making us felling very confortable and relaxed during our stay. Good quality of food and restaurant service where we would only remark that there is from to improve on the pool restaurant - very slow - we had to wait circa 40 minutes to be served. I would like to highlight the excellent service and kindness of the people working at the earth/gardening lab. Only disappointing point for us was the reception and managing of our bookings at the reception desk. We had a very poor experience on arrival and on different exchanges which we think are due to the lack of experience of some of the staff. We would recomend the management to review. Other than that we would have expected some courtesy for the hotel once we communicated our early departure as result of having my mother passing away. We understand there is no obligation for the hotel to have it but...

Very relaxing stay in this property. service is excellent. regret limited choice in menus and number of restaurant availabilities when you stay 5 nights. Overall excellent stay. Sometimes a bit noisy when too many babys/children around tables/pools. phones should be more limited around pool/restaurants areas.

It was the second time we stayed at six senses Douro and we loved it, everything is very well thought out and we love the decoration, the scenery, the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, although a luxury hotel it is nonetheless kids friendly.

Unfortunately, our stay did not copletely satisfy our expectations. We found our stay very poor value for money compared to our previous experiences staying in 5 star resorts of this level. Here we explain why it is unlikely we will return: The variety on themenu in the restaurant was scarse, When we didn0t want to eat in the restaurant, we had very little choice- it would have been nice to extend the pool menu to the bar upstairs. Nota ll the facilities available were advised to us, we discovered them ourselves and sometms too late to use them. We had booked a Shrubs and Tonic class but we went to the Earth Lab where we were not directed to the Bar and therefore waited for the course but then found out that we missed it. SPA: the treatments are overpriced. The softdrinks which should have been complimentary were not brought everyday,
