Constructed by the Knights of St. John in 1554, the Macina formed part of a bastion protected Senglea from invaders over the centuries and was an important landmark in the city. Hammett’s Macina Restaurant showcases a unique gastronomic concept that conveys the island's succession of powers, combining modern culinary manifestations with traditional Mediterranean influences from the Phoenician era.

And much like the native Maltese tongue, the menu encapsulates the history derived from the island’s Mediterranean-Semitic past, albeit with a distinctly contemporary twist as well as a focus on fresh, seasonal, and local produce.
The menu is constructed by a multi-award winning team, who previously worked in the prestigious Villa Brasserie in St. Julian’s, led by talented Chef de Cuisine Francisco Carrasco and directed by 24-time award-winning Chef and restaurateur Chris Hammett.
Al fresco dining is a pleasure to be hold in the warmer months when guests can admire the bastions of the fortified city of Birgu as they illuminate in the sky, perhaps accompanied by a boisterous fireworks display.
Patrons can enjoy the world class wines from our expansive wine cellar.
Hammett’s Macina Restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner all week, as well as for lunch on weekends.
The restaurant also offers an all-day in-room service menu to hotel guests.
