Located an hour and a half south of Bern, and north of Geneva, the legendary Gstaad has long been the place to ski for jet setting celebrities, with everyone from Madonna to Princess Diana having been spotted around town. Ultima Gstaad lies just metres from the nearest ski lift, meaning you’ll be traveling from your luxurious lodging to the snowfields faster than you can say lickety-split.
The hotel is 1 km from the Gstaad train station and a 10-minute drive from the airport.
Rooms & Suites
This beautiful boutique lodging is comprised of 11 suites and 6 spacious residences, the latter of which are ideal for larger groups.
Each suite revolves around a glimmering bronze clad fireplace – an obligatory centrepiece for a cosy ski lodge atmosphere. Solid timber walls and plush fur furnishings add to the rich ambiance, as do the lush designer upholstery and colossal grey marble bathrooms, which are complete with rain showers and a bathtub big enough for two. Expect to find a private balcony in every room with stunning views of the valley.
Featuring between two and four bedrooms, the roomier residences make for an excellent co-living space for families and larger groups who prefer to keep to themselves. Each comes complete with a fully equipped marble clad kitchen as well as a lush dining space and cosy lounge for up to 10 guests. Crystal chandeliers and posh velvet armchairs come part of the parcel.
Of course, not everyone likes to cook, which is why guests can order in a private chef to prepare them an exquisite meal.
Pool & Facilities
Kicking back in a sauna or a hot tub is the ideal way to finish a tough day on the slopes; thus it’s understandably a popular pastime at the Ultima Gstaad. Guests can access an indoor and outdoor Jacuzzi, a sauna, and even a Hammam.
For those looking to interweave a health and wellness routine, the 1000m2 spa and clinic has everything a beauty queen could possibly need. A salon, health bar, and treatment rooms are just some of the onsite facilities to get guests looking their best.
And if spending a whole day skiing weren’t exercise enough, the onsite gym and temperature controlled 15-meter swimming pool provide another way to keep those calories at bay.
Food & Drink
After working up an appetite on the slopes, guests can indulge in a gourmet feast at the hotel’s La Duchessa. Intimately lit yet informal, the space serves an a la carte menu of traditional Italian recipes made from high-quality locally sourced produce. Top the meal off with a delicious blueberry based dessert or perhaps sample an exotic cocktail from the specially trained in-house mixologist.
The complex lies just a few meters away from the nearest ski lift. Hundreds of kilometres of runs for all levels can be found throughout the region, enough to keep a keen skier amused for months on end. The hotel opens on the 12th or 13th of December each year, in line with the official start of the ski season.
Moreover, Ultima Gstaad is open during the summer season due to the many activities in Gstaad, a large demand for detox and wellness retreats, and of course for outdoor activities such as golf, hiking and biking. The 6 residences remain open all year around.
