Fairmont Le Montreux Palace

A short but memorable stay in this grande dame of a hotel. Staff were extremely professional and efficient. And the room, overlooking the lake with a wee balcony, was out of this world.

Many thanks for an overall amazing stay. Special mention to the ladies in charge of breakfast service and the older concierge, you are a joy to deal with. I have a few notes that I would like to share however. Checkin was crowded and is a bit wierd with the shield and it is diffcult to speak to one another. The younger man did not know how to deal with me and a simple request (parking) so the manager took over who was very forthcoming - I very much appreciated the upgrade and parking. Similarly, we had different treatments and attention around the pool - sometimes great and sometimes poor. The concierge desk and entrance staff was often not around, but when they were, they were often great. Cleaning was impeccable. Overall my impression is that, on many occations people are not trained similarly, or enough, which gives an inconsistent service. Also, the info on the ipad was outdated in several place. For example, I read that breakfast opens 6:30, but it was in fact 7:09 which caused me to rush breakfast and almost miss an appointment. This is too easy of a mistake for a hotel of this calibre. The Jazz Cafe was excellent, both staff and food, but quite alot of cigars were out and since it is overpriced I generally expect a fuller selection. Also, the wine list is way too short on back vintages and Burgundy! These are too many minor details to call it a perfect stay. Nonetheless, with the facilities and location and generally good service I place this among the top 10 hotels of Europe.

Staff at the reception, restaurant and spa areas were all friendly. Beautiful rooms, charming amenities, comfortable bed. We enjoyed our stay very much and we are sure that we will come back. One suggestion to improve further at breakfast buffet is, due to this difficult COVID-19 time, we would have felt more comfortable if there was an individual cutlery instead of usual joint cutlery per dish. That’s the example we had at a different hotel in Switzerland and similar solution would be appreciated. Nevertheless the overall stay was extremely pleasant.
